Beach Safety

Conserve the sand dunes and sea oats by not parking or driving
on the beaches. Open fires are not permitted on the beach.
Alcohol is prohibited in public areas.
Driving Information

Watch your speed. Make sure you observe the posted speed limits
when driving. Remember to buckle up - seatbelts are the law. In
addition, children up to age four or forty pounds must be in a
separate child restraint carrier (child car seat). A right turn
at a red light is allowed unless otherwise posted. Headlights
must be on from sunset to sunrise, or when visibility is reduced
due to rain or fog. Use extreme caution when driving in the rain
or on recently wet pavement.
Sun Sense

Preparing correctly for a day on the beach will ensure your
fabulous Florida tan is the envy of all your friends
back home. Follow these tips to ensure a pleasant time in the
sun: Use sunscreen with a higher SPF than you normally do and
apply it frequently. Fair-skinned people should always use a
higher SPF sun block. Use sunscreen every day even when you're
just walking or playing (even if it's cloudy). Sand, asphalt and
cement all reflect and intensify the sun's rays. For maximum
protection, choose a waterproof sunscreen that retains its SPF
level after 80 minutes in the water. Because children are more
susceptible to sun damage than adults, they need a waterproof
sunscreen with a high SPF.
Water Safety

Note color-coded flags for swimming conditions at the beach
(green = safe, yellow = marginal, red = dangerous and
prohibited). Jet ski operators must be at least 14 years old,
always wear a flotation device and ride with caution.
